On October 21st, 22nd and 23rd the 15th Fair Trade Cities and Towns International Conference will take place in Quito, Ecuador. This meeting will be attended by delegations from the international and Latin American Cities for Fair Trade campaign, made up of authorities, committee members, producers, and supporters of Fair Trade. It is expected that around 250 people will participate.
Under the slogan “Fair Trade, in Sustainable Cities Construction”, delegations from several countries will exchange experiences and ideas about the Fair Trade Cities and Towns campaign at this meeting. The objective: Strengthen and promote the activities of the cities participating in the Fair Trade Cities and Towns campaign, publicize the commitment of the authorities and, above all, create synergies between cities and countries, with ideas and reflections to generate a Local Economic Development.
The Conference in Quito will be the first to be held in the global South, making the exception of the one held in Lebanon in 2016. It also marks the 20th anniversary of the Movement, which was born in the United Kingdom and spread throughout the global North. But the Movement is now global and it is so timely that we have the Conference in Ecuador in 2022 the venue itself will aptly symbolize the breadth and growth of the movement over the last 20 years.
The meeting is organized in different presentations and workshops in which concrete experiences and initiatives will be presented, such as the commitment of universities or how to contribute to achieving more sustainable cities, young people and their commitment to the environment, women´s leadership within Fair Trade, as well as financing and market alternatives for small-scales producers. But more global issues such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and their link to Fair Trade´s commitment will also be discussed.
To reach the largest number of national and international audiences, the conference will be hybrid.

City Hall
This space is where the activities of the first day of the event will take place on October 21, along with the opening event from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., accompanied by a cocktail to close the day.
Parallel to the activities, there will be a Showroom for Fair Trade producers from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the lobby of the venue.
DETAILS OF THE PLACE
Located in the heart of the historic center of Quito, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is part of the Municipal Palace, which is the seat of the Municipality of the Metropolitan District of Quito. It is located on the eastern side of the Plaza de la Independencia, in the Historic Center of the city, and its modernist architectural characteristics try to link with the previous constructions of the square.
Due to the age of the building and the lack of space, the old Municipal Palace of the 19th century and several neighboring houses were demolished in 1962, the construction of the new building began in 1970, in which a public tender was called for designs. The building was completed during the year 1973.
The dependencies that the Municipal Palace of Quito houses are the Office of the Metropolitan Mayor, the offices of the 21 Councilors, the General Administration, the Metropolitan Attorney, the General Secretariat of the Council and the Communication Secretariat and the City Hall.
In this space, the most important protocol acts of Quito are carried out, where recognitions, awards, speeches, possessions of authorities and events of all kinds have been delivered. The space is open to citizens to use it in their relevant events that require the city seal.
Municipal Educational Unit Antonio José de Sucre
For the development of the event, the auditorium theater, sports center, Domo de las Banderas and classrooms equipped with projectors, chairs and tables will be available for the different activities on October 22 and 23, following the following details:
According to Plan:
Central Dome: The Productive Fair will be held on October 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Classrooms: There are 4 classrooms next to the Theater of the Educational Unit, of which 3 of them are together and the fourth will be diagonally. Here the work tables will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a capacity of approximately 40 people for each classroom.
Theater: In this space, the plenary and the SDG panel of the event will be held on October 22 and 23 from 9:10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. respectively.
Sports Center: In this place, lunch will be held for attendees on October 22 at 1:30 p.m.
PLACE DETAILS
This space has more than a century of active life, which has transcended in the educational field of the city and country, starting with the attendance of 260 male students. It was called “Sucre School”.
From the point of view of infrastructure, the establishment worked in several buildings belonging to the Municipality and private individuals; In the years 1934-1935, the Pre-Professional section was created in the establishment, in which students were trained in learning manual techniques. Later in the year 1960, this section would become the “Sucre” Municipal Industrial Technical College, and also this year it opened the women’s section, providing its services separately to men and women. As of the academic year 1987-1988, the two sections are united.
Considering the work and prestige based on the fruitful work, the Ministry of Public Education, in 1961 declared the Municipal School “Sucre” as an EXPERIMENTAL CENTER.
The purpose of the Experimental Educational Unit “Antonio José de Sucre” is the comprehensive and integrated education of boys, girls, adolescents, youth and adults with equity and relevance in the context of respect without exclusion or discrimination, with opportunities for all, in the framework of Good Living and the focus on Rights.
Currently, it is the municipal institution of the Metropolitan District of Quito with the largest number of students and which has face-to-face modalities in the morning and evening with 2,689 students (Central Campus), Semi-face-to-face with 456 students (Central and South Campuses). ) and Extraordinary Basic Higher Education (CBA) with 143 students (South Campus); Sucre also has 131 qualified teachers and 25 people in the administrative field.
In its 128 years of educational history, it has crossed borders through the successful participation of the learning community, highlighting the awards and trophies obtained in educational, cultural and sports contests.

Located in the western part of the city, on the best preserved historic center in Latin America, its privileged view allows you to appreciate its brightest pearl, especially at night, which makes it the perfect place to have dinner for the October 22, 2022.
Its name comes from the Quichua voice Yaku, which means ‘Water’. This Water Park-Museum was built on the first water collection and purification tanks in Quito, which supplied the city since 1913 and were later replaced by new, more adequate infrastructures as the city grew.
Yaku Parque Museo del Agua opened its doors on December 5, 2005 and was created with the aim of generating a meeting space where, through exhibition, educational, community and research-action-participation programs, each visitor can get to know and co-construct the history of water, value its properties, reflect on the responsible use of water and promote a culture of water.
